Kali Natha Yoga is the yoga of the heart. This yoga will empower you, bring you clarity and give you more power to make better choices. This is a root yoga taught to me by a living guru.  This is the yoga of the mystics, and will connect you to that same spiritual energy inside of you..

I teach several classes throughout the Los Angeles area as well as private instruction. I hold a Masters in Clinical Psychology and Communications and also work as a therapist in private practice.

NEW CLASS AT 3:00 ON SATURDAYS at 4567 W. Washington Blvd, L.A., 90016 FREE FIRST CLASS

I have seen lives change dramatically as was the case when I worked as a classroom therapist with inner city adolescents with severe behavioral problems in a non-public school settings in the capacity as a behavioral therapist. As a therapist I wore several hats. One of many was a yoga teacher where I taught them yogic stretching and conscious breathing. As a result of teaching them yoga on a weekly basis, I was able to notice the changes in these students who live in stressful environments with reports of lowered dependency on street drugs and alcohol as well as an approved ability to be able to relax and be less reactive.

Besides teaching regular weekly classes, I also teach a class in the Silver Lake area for seniors called “Stretch and Kvetch,” by using simple stretches and conscious breathing in a humorous atmosphere, they were laughing as they were stretching. I think its important in teaching yoga by meeting the individual where they’re at and not mapping out some place that I think they should go. I like to put everyoneone I teach at ease, from the person who has practiced yoga, to those who can barely touch their feet.

What people are saying…

I started taking Yoga with John approximately 6 months ago. The change has been extraordinary in every aspect of my life. My body has become stronger and more limber. As an opera singer, I have noticed a tremendous renewal in my vocal production. With John’s humor and knowledge I am now addicted to Yoga.

Swami Laxman Das Jaya/John Shinavier has been my yoga teacher for the past ten years. He makes the practice come alive for me, by bringing the awareness of how yoga can help transform not only my body, but my soul and spirit as well. In his gentle and loving way he inspires me to put all my effort into getting all I can from yoga.

John aka Swami’s yoga is like nobody else’s.  In my experience I have taken yoga everywhere, from what is offered at a gym, to classes at Bikrams and Yoga West.  Without proselytizing,  Swami takes me deeper into the mysticism of yoga and its an incredible workout.  He’s the best!

John is also a Swami and Yoga Acharya (great teacher) of “Kali Natha Yoga.”
